Klay Thompson to have ACL surgery this week

0 9

The sharpshooter will finally undergo surgery for his injured knee.

Klay Thompson is all set to have surgery on his knee following an ACL tear during Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.

While introducing the Golden State Warriors recent draft picks on Monday, General Manager Bob Myers told reporters that Thompson would have surgery later this week.

Thompson sustained the injury on June 13, while landing awkwardly after being fouled on a dunk attempt. That means his surgery will be roughly two weeks after first suffering the injury.

That’s a pretty normal timeline. Unlike with many injuries, it’s common for doctors to wait a while before surgically dealing with an ACL. The goal is to let much of the swelling come down before going in.

While Myers did offer that health update, he didn’t have any other updates on Thompson or Kevin Durant. Both players are unrestricted free agents rehabbing serious injuries. The question of whether or not Durant will re-sign with the Warriors is, of course, one of the offseason’s hottest topics.

As always, we’ll keep you updated on both the health and the free agency of both players.
