Lovren, 29, did not play a single minute of the final but still took part in the unique ritual.

Liverpool beat Tottenham thanks to an early Mo Salah penalty and a late Divock Origi strike.

The centre-half was seen using scissors to cut away the section of net with a Croatia flag wrapped round his waist while his young son watched on.

Lovren made just 19 appearances for the Reds this season – and only three of those came in the Champions League.

Basketball players traditionally take part in the peculiar celebration – cutting away nets after they win big games or championships.

The practice was made famous by North Carolina state basketball coach Everett Case when he cut down the net after his team’s Southern Conference title win in 1947.

Whether or not Lovren took inspiration from his hoop-shooting counterparts – it cannot be said.

But it will certainly make for a unique memento from a night to remember for Liverpool’s players, staff and fans.

As well as the Croatian’s unique celebration, the final was also remembered for a scantily clad streaker who invaded the pitch in the first-half.
