Kansas Wesleyan's Sydney Mortensen (SR/Wichita, Kan.) has been named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team in women's basketball in NAIA District 3 as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Mortensen has been fantastic for the Coyotes during the season. Playing in every game for the Coyotes this season, Mortensen is averaging 9.0 points, and 2.5 rebounds per game helping KWU to a 20-10 overall record and the third seed in the KCAC tournament which starts tonight.

She ranks third in the KCAC in 3-point percentage (.410) and in 3-pointers made per game (2.28). She ranks third on the team in scoring.

Mortensen also excels in the classroom, carrying one of the top GPAs amongst the entire student-athlete population. She has been twice named Academic All-KCAC and was a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete in 2017-18, all awards which she will earn again this year. She is a seven-time President's Honor Roll honoree as well.

Nominees to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America® program must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and must have attended their current institution for at least one full academic year and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility status.
