[Women's Basketball] Lady Cavs' third quarter push not enough against Knights
LAURINBURG, N.C. – Three Lady Cavs scored in double figures, but that was not enough as Montreat fell 66-52 to the St. Andrews Knights in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. The Lady Cavs dropped to 9-12 (8-10 AAC) for the season.
After the Knights got the first bucket in the opening period, the Lady Cavs unfortunately were never able to gain a lead in the game. St. Andrews pushed its lead to double digits on a 12-0 run to start the second frame, and Montreat entered the half with a 16-point deficit.
The Lady Cavs made a run in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights 22-14 to end the frame down by just eight points. However, it was not enough as St. Andrews took back over in the final period and never dropped below a double digit lead in the last eight minutes.
Jala Daniels led her team in scoring with 14 points as Caleigh Raby was close behind with 12. Arianna Williams posted a double-double that featured 11 points and a career-high 14 boards.
Darah DeWalt along with Raby and Williams each put up a pair of assists.
Montreat went 15-for-52 from the field and committed 27 turnovers that resulted in 27 points for St. Andrews.
