[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Grasps Thrilling Win over No. 7 Union

LAURINBURG, NC - The St. Andrews University men's basketball team topped AAC competitor, (7) Union College, on Saturday afternoon at Harris Court, 89-78.
The matchup between the St. Andrews Knights and the Union College Bulldogs began with a fast-paced first half tempo that SAU senior, Warren Vinson (SR/Rock Hill, SC), dominated as he recorded 18 points. Vinson's 18 points made him the top scorer of the game in the first half and helped the Knights go into the intermission with a close score behind the nationally ranked Bulldogs, 50-41.
Turnovers were a factor on both sides of the court with each team tallying 10 turnovers a piece.
The Knights shot well from the 3-point range in the first half, collecting a .500, going 5 for 10 behind the arc and shooting .448 in total field goals.
The start of the second half showed that the Knights were full of determination, coming out and tying the game in the 12th minute of the final half, 64-64. The momentum of the game took a noticeable change with the Bulldogs struggling in the paint and the Knights taking advantage, collecting a 13-point lead in the final seconds of the game.
The Knights were led by Warren Vinson with his best game of the season recording a double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds. D'Antre Harvey (FR/Burlington, NC) also recorded several personal-bests in the matchup against the Bulldogs, tallying an impressive 21 points with 9 boards. Senior Christian Lathan (SR/Fayetteville, NC) collected 13 points, shooting 6 for 10 in the paint.
The Bulldogs sat undefeated in conference play before the Knights broke their 10-game winning streak this afternoon. St. Andrews improves to 5-9 and 4-5 in conference play while Union falls to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
St. Andrews Knights will next be in action on Tuesday, January 8th at 7:30 pm as they travel to ACC opponent, Bluefield College.
