[Women's Basketball] Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Secure 80-75 win over Cavaliers

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (3-7, 2-3 G-MAC) defeated Walsh University (7-3, 4-2 G-MAC), 80-75, in Trojan Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

 

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans and Cavaliers met for the third time after both teams won on their home floor a season ago. TNU leads the series 2-1.

The Cavaliers entered today with the second best record in the G-MAC.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Walsh held early leads of 5-0 and 11-2 and took a 16-4 advantage after the first quarter … the Trojans outscored the Cavaliers by 17 in the second quarter … Brianna Bryant (JR/Athens, TN) connected for a 3-pointer to open the quarter … trailing 19-9, the Trojans put together a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to one, 19-18 … after trading buckets, four minutes later the Trojans tied the game at 27-27 and went on a 6-1 run to close the half … the Trojans led 33-28 at the break … Walsh chipped away at the Trojans lead most of the third quarter and took an eight-point lead, 54-46 into the fourth quarter … 20 made free-throws helped the Trojans outscore the Cavaliers by 15 in the final frame … the Trojans regained the lead for good after Adi Hale (SR/Lexington, TN) made a 3-pointer to put Trevecca up 61-58 … the Trojans secured 16 free-throws from that point to win 80-75.

 

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Walsh converted on 71% of their free throws (17-25) while TNU made 63% as a team (27-43) … both teams shot 43% from the floor … Walsh had the edge from 3-point range (27%) to Trevecca's (24%) … both teams grabbed 40 rebounds … TNU led in steals (8-5) while Walsh had 13 assists to Trevecca's 10.

 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Callie Hackett (SR/Carthage, TN) led the way for the Trojans offense with 21 points (7-7 from the foul line) and four assists … Brittin Boyer (SR/Sullivan, IL) matched her 17 points from Thursday and grabbed eight rebounds … Adi Hale also registered in double-figures with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor … Olivia Travis (FR/Minneapolis, MN) contributed three points and a team-high three blocks.

 

WHAT'S NEXT    

The Trojans get a couple weeks off the hardwood until they host Lee University on New Year's Eve at 2 PM. It will be the 24th meeting between the two schools with Lee owning a 12-11 advantage in the series.
