WICHITA, Kan. – For the second consecutive year, Friends University senior track & field standout Chelsea Baker has been selected as the top College Female athlete of the Greater Wichita Sports Commission, presented last night (June 28) at the Hyatt Regency in Wichita.

Baker wasn't the only representative for Friends tonight, as junior men's basketball player Jordan Murdock was also a finalist for the College Male Athlete of the Year award.

"Chelsea has been such a wonderful ambassador for not only our program, but for Friends University as a whole," Friends head coach Cole Davis said.

The USTFCCCA Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, Baker wrapped up her historic career with an NAIA National Championship in the Heptathlon, where she won with a school record 5,120 points.

Baker's Heptathlon victory included coming out on top in the 100m Hurdles (14.40), High Jump (1.77 -5'9.75") and Long Jump (5.64).

A native of Pittsburg, Kan., Baker recorded a dominant performance in her final conference meet that saw her named the KCAC Women's Outdoor Athlete of the Year.

She was victorious in a trio of jumping events, winning the High Jump (1.77m), Long Jump (5.83m) and Triple Jump (11.84m), with her High Jump and Long Jump mark each representing KCAC meet records.

The wins gave Baker an astounding 20 KCAC championships to her name over the course of her illustrious career.

The epitome of a student-athlete, Baker also earned Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for the second straight season.

"It has been a pleasure to work with her these past four years," Davis said. "She will always be remembered as one of the greatest athletes to ever go through our program."
