Bernie Williams performs the National Anthem before Twins-Indians in Puerto Rico
He’s a talented musician in addition to being an accomplished baseball player.
Bernie Williams played for 16 seasons in Major League Baseball, all for the Yankees. He’s now one of the many former players supporting recovery efforts in Puerto Rico post-Hurricane Maria, fundraising and making visits alike.
Besides his baseball career, Williams is also a talented and accomplished musician and composer. He’s recorded two albums that reached the Top 5 on the U.S. Jazz charts and, fun fact, has been nominated for a Grammy and was signed to Paul McCartney’s publishing company.
So it’s appropriate that Bernie (who grew up in Puerto Rico before being drafted) put together his love for the island, his prominence in the sport, and his musical talents to perform the national anthem before the first Indians-Twins game in San Juan.

It was a great rendition, with fans saying “who knew Bernie Williams could shred” and that the rendition was “awesome.” Carlos Beltran was also on hand to throw out the first pitch, both lovely ways to marry the past and present of the sport during an exciting series.
