Isaiah Thomas to meet with doctors to evaluate options for hip

0

Isaiah Thomas could be out a lot longer than expected.

Isaiah Thomas was expected to miss the remainder of the Los Angeles Lakers’ road trip, which ends on Monday, with hip soreness but recent reports suggest he could be out a little while longer. Like, the rest of the season longer.

Thomas returned from an injury that kept him out for nearly eight months in January, but after deciding not to have surgery on his torn labrum, Thomas seems to be experiencing some discomfort in that same hip area. Thomas has looked a step slow since returning from injury and that could be because his hip hasn’t healed properly.

Thomas has appeared in 17 games for the Lakers and might have played his last if a doctor suggests surgery or a form of rehabilitation that would be keep him out for the rest of the regular season, which ends in less than a month.

At the season’s end, Thomas will be an unrestricted free agent, where he we will likely get a fraction of the payday he was expecting just a year ago unless some team is still really high on him. Should he head into the summer with another injury, Thomas could accept a one-year, make good deal from the Lakers in hopes of raising his value for the following summer, when he’ll be 30.

We will provide updates as they become available.
