Wesley Matthews reportedly out for the season with stress fracture in leg

Matthews suffered the injury in Dallas’ Saturday win over Memphis.

Dallas Mavericks guard Wesley Matthews suffered a stress fracture in his right leg and will miss the remainder of the season, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania. He will not undergo surgery, and instead will rest to recover from the injury.

Matthews suffered the injury in the Mavericks’ 34-point win over the Grizzlies on Saturday. He logged 25 minutes then sought an MRI after his right leg swelled following the game.

Matthews appeared in 63 games for Dallas this season, averaging 12.7 points on 40.6 percent from the field and 38.1 percent shooting from deep. He averaged about 34 minutes per game, so his injury will free up minutes for the younger guards in Dallas’ rotation, including Kyle Collinsworth and Dorian Finney-Smith.

Matthews is in the third year of a four-year, $70 million contract and will likely opt into the final year of the deal, scheduled to pay him $18.6 million.
