0

The 2017-18 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men's Basketball Tournament tips off Wednesday, Feb. 21. The top eight teams will play for the chance to represent the conference at the NAIA Division II National Championship in Sioux Falls, S.D.

As the regular-season champion, Cornerstone receives the league's first automatic bid as well as the top seed for the conference tournament. The Golden Eagles finished the regular season as the No. 1 team in the country and has the experience to back it up with 10 WHAC tournament titles and two national championships. This year marks the fifth time Cornerstone sits as the top seed.

Fifth-ranked Indiana Tech is seeded second and is the only conference school to beat CU this year. Aquinas took the third seed based on a head-to-head tiebreaker with UM-Dearborn. Madonna sits as the fifth seed and Rochester, competing in its first WHAC tournament, is the sixth seed. The final two seeds were decided by tiebreakers with Siena Heights taking the seventh seed with wins over Concordia and UNOH. Concordia edged out UNOH with a win over a higher seeded team.

Games start at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21 on the higher seed's campus. The tournament champion receives the league's second automatic berth to nationals. Should Cornerstone win the tournament, then the runner-up will receive the bid.
