How to watch the pairs figure skating short program online

Can the Knierims add to the bronze medal from the team event?

Just days after the United States took home the bronze medal in the figure skating team event at the 2018 Winter Olympics, the pairs competition will get started on Tuesday evening on NBC at 8 p.m. ET (live stream at NBCOlympics.com and on FuboTV). Beginning with the pairs’ short program, medalists will be decided by the highest combined score from Tuesday’s short program and Wednesday’s free skate.

Team USA only sent one set of competitors for the pairs event, wife and husband duo Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim. Having already claimed a bronze medal in Pyeongchang, the Knierims skated in both the short- and long-program portions of the team event, getting them more than ready to compete on the Olympic ice.

Some might consider having to prepare for multiple events challenging, but according to NBC, Alexa embraced the opportunity: “Who cares if you’re tired?! You got to compete four times at the Olympics.”

This marks the Knierims’ first time competing at the Olympics, but they’ve only been skating together since 2012. Married in 2016, the pair is coming off their second win at the U.S. National Championship, and are looking to best their latest fifth-place finish in both the Japan and U.S. Grand Prix.

The Americans will have some tough competition in order to snag a spot on the medal podium during the 2018 Winter Games. Top teams to beat include Germany’s Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot, Olympic Athletes of Russia Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov, and China’s Sui Wenjing and Han Cong.
