SPSV, Moreau boys break into Chronicle top 20

A defending state champion — St. Patrick-St. Vincent-Vallejo (Division 4) — and a state runner-up — Moreau-Hayward (D2) — enter The Chronicle’s Metro boys basketball rankings following impressive showings at Monday’s MaxPreps/De La Salle MLK Jr. Classic at St. Mary’s.

St. Patrick’s finally has all its players in place and it responded with a 52-48 win over previous No. 3 Las Lomas-Walnut Creek, handing the Knights their first loss of the year.

Moreau defeated defending state Open Division champion Woodcreek-Roseville to climb into the rankings.

Las Lomas dropped to sixth and has a key Diablo Athletic League game with undefeated and eighth-ranked Clayton Valley (18-0) on Friday.
