Watch the late interceptions that clinched the Peach Bowl for UCF over Auburn

0

The Knights have proven themselves beyond all doubt.

The decisive moment in UCF’s 34-27 Peach Bowl win against Auburn on New Year’s Day, which clinched a 13-0 season for the Knights in Scott Frost’s last game as their coach:

That interception in the end zone by the Knights’ Antwan Collier ended things. The Knights’ star outside linebacker, Shaquem Griffin, who has one hand, coaxed Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham into a poor decision by pressuring him. Griffin, wearing No. 18, closed in on Stiddham, who didn’t see him until the last moment and then heaved one up. He had help from another edge rusher across from him.

That was UCF’s second key pick in the final six minutes.

UCF inside linebacker Chequan Burkett apparently flew under the radar of Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham. As Stidham tried to throw across the middle on a second-and-5 at Auburn’s 40, Burkett jumped in front of the ball and redirected it to Auburn’s end zone for a touchdown to put the Knights ahead, 34-20, with six minutes to play. Nobody on the Auburn offense was close to catching him.

Auburn was driving and had a chance to tie the game after a blocked field goal on UCF’s last possession. Burkett’s pick-six changed the trajectory of the game.

UCF’s success against Auburn solidifies the Knights as one of the best teams ever from outside a power conference. The AAC, the Knights’ league, will surely use their season — and this game — to bolster claims that it is a power league.
