Rob Gronkowski apologizes for post-play cheap shot on Tre’Davious White

The hit was late and dirty, and it landed White in the concussion protocol.

Rob Gronkowski put a cheap, late hit on Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White on Sunday. He came in after the whistle and dropped an elbow on the back of White’s head. White ended up leaving the game with a head injury as a result.

Gronkowski said after the game that he was sorry.

“I definitely want to apologize to No. 27,” Gronkowski said following the Patriots’ win.

“I’m not in the business of that. There was a lot of frustration, and I was just really frustrated at that moment,” Gronkowski said. “It just happened naturally through emotions and frustration, and I just want to apologize to Tre’Davious White.”

Gronkowski went on to say that his frustration was really with the refs. He felt like White made enough contact with him to justify a flag, and he didn’t get one.

Gronkowski did have a conversation with the officials at the end of the game, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was characteristically tight-lipped about the incident.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that he believes Gronkowski is “a better player than that.”

“I just don’t think there’s any place in the game for that,” McDermott said, via WGRZ’s Heather Prusak.

Bills safety Micah Hyde was also penalized on the same play for unnecessary roughness. Hyde said after the game that it was “just a dirty play.”

It was a dirty play. Gronkowski could face a fine and possibly a suspension for the hit.
