Warrior Wonder: Steph Curry dazzles in first preseason win over Timberwolves

China Klay is great, but Shanghai Steph’s 40 points in three quarters won the day in a blowout over the Timberwolves in China.

The first quarter of the Warriors early morning (on this side of the world) game against the Minnesota Timberwolves wasn’t pretty. Minnesota scored 44 points, turnovers were abound, and the Warriors’s passing looked disjointed and languid.

Everything turned out fine—it turns out that Steph Curry plays for the Warriors. His reign of splash commenced when the Dubs were down by 10 early in the second quarter. With three minutes left in the half, Steph tied the game off a steal. During the Warriors’ 142-110 victory, Curry played like the team’s defensive leader.

Curry’s passing was almost as impressive as his scoring and defense. He initiated a classic Warrior fast break, highlighted by a behind-the-back pass, ending with a Klay Thompson dagger. Throughout the game, Curry was instrumental in finding Thompson for open shots, who finished with an efficient 24 points. After this dish, the Warriors led for the rest of the game. The win resembled the days before Kevin Durant, who was a role player in this one.

Curry cemented Warrior Wonder/Shanghai Steph after halftime. He was on fire from behind the arc and concluded his beautiful, third-quarter symphony with this delicate floater over Karl Anthony-Towns. M-V-P chants echoed through the crowd as Curry sank his free throws.
