Eagles rookie Jake Elliott makes 61-yard field goal to beat the Giants

Jake Elliott made one hell of a debut in Philadelphia.

Jake Elliott saved the day for the Philadelphia Eagles with a 61-yard field goal as time expired to beat the New York Giants, 27-24, in Week 3.

Elliott, 22, was a fifth-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in April, but didn’t make the team’s final roster. Instead he got scooped up by the Eagles from the Bengals’ practice squad after Caleb Sturgis got injured.

He made two extra points and two field goals in his debut with the team last week, but in his first game in Philadelphia, he came up huge with a game winner that barely snuck through the uprights.

The 61-yard bomb was the longest in the 15-year history of Lincoln Financial Field and just three yards short of the NFL record of 64 yards. Only six field goals have ever been longer in NFL history.

But the final field goal wasn’t even Elliott’s only clutch moment of the day. Less than a minute earlier, the Eagles asked the rookie to hit a 46-yard field goal to tie the game at 24-24. He nailed that kick, and after a three-and-out for the Giants offense, got a chance to win it 51 seconds later.
