Purdue (yes, that Purdue) is beating Michigan at halftime

0

Miracle worker Jeff Brohm is working wonders that apparently never cease.

Purdue leads No. 8 Michigan at the half, 10-7. Read that sentence a few times to digest, and perhaps say it out loud so it can really hit home. It is the reality of our Saturdays now. Every week now, we get comprehensive and distinct evidence that this is not the Purdue of the last 15 years. Jeff Brohm has taken the program and in a matter of months made it something that can challenge good teams and will back down from nobody, like we saw in Week 1 vs. Louisville.

It stands to reason that Michigan would be a stiff challenge for Purdue primarily because what the Wolverines sport up front in the trenches. But to Brohm’s credit as an offensive schemer, Purdue’s just not really running the ball. Out of 32 total plays, the Boilermakers have 12 rushing attempts. Sacks count as rushes in college football, so if you take those out Purdue has run the ball only nine times. They know where their bread is buttered and they’re doing what works.

Quick hitting things like this:

Neither team is really executing on third down either. The Boilermakers are 0-7 and Michigan is 2-8. They’ll have to start taking advantage of those situations if they want to keep this upset bid alive, but this is certainly a good start.
