NASCAR Darlington 2017: Starting grid, lineup for Bojangles' Southern 500

The 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup season moves to South Carolina this weekend for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 from Darlington Raceway.

Kevin Harvick captured the pole position for Sunday’s race thanks to a 177.730-mph lap in the final round of qualifying on Saturday, his second career pole position at Darlington.

Harvick enters Sunday fourth in points on the season with one victory — at Sonoma — and seven more top-five finishes. The veteran driver won the Bojangles’ Southern 500 in 2014.

Martin Truex Jr. is the points leader in 2017 and the defending champion at Darlington. He starts on Sunday in second position, just behind Harvick thanks to a qualifying lap of 177.077 mph.

This is one of just two races remaining before the NASCAR playoffs begin on Sept. 17 at Chicagoland Speedway.
