Florida vs. Michigan live updates: Scores, highlights, and more
The Gators and Wolverines meet in Week 1. Follow along here for updates throughout the game.
The No. 11 Michigan Wolverines meet the No. 17 Florida Gators on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in North Texas. It’s the season opener for both teams.
Michigan is coming off a 10-3 season in Jim Harbaugh’s second year on the job, which ended with agonizing losses to Ohio State and Florida State. The Wolverines weren’t far from a Playoff bid last year, but they’ve lost almost their entire defense and will need to retool on the fly to have a chance this year. The good news: Harbaugh’s assembled lots of talent. Reinforcements should be ready, including sophomore defensive end and former No. 1 overall recruit Rashan Gary. Expect the Wolverines to be a good team.
Florida went 9-4 last year, also in its second year under coach Jim McElwain. The Gators had an excellent defense but a flawed offense, which wasn’t a lot different than the outlook for Michigan. They’re missing several suspended players in this game — most notably top receiver Antonio Callaway. How they perform Saturday will give us a hint as to how competitive they’ll be in the SEC East, and who’ll be their quarterback.
Here are detailed team previews for UM and UF. We’ll update this post throughout the game, so hang out with us if that’s your thing.

- Odds: Michigan is a 4-point favorite.
Florida has had a three-way QB competition going on through fall camp. Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire is the alleged favorite to take and keep the job, but McElwain has left open the possibility that Feleipe Franks and Luke Del Rio might also play. That’s right: A three-quarterback rotation. I’m choosing to believe it won’t happen, but nobody should be more hopeful that it does than the Wolverines.
Michigan has its own uncertainty, and not because the Wolverines held off releasing their official roster for as long as they possibly could. They’ve got a sturdy QB in Wilton Speight, and they’ve got talent all over the field. But all of Speight’s top targets from last season are now gone, and the defense is almost completely different. The main holdovers there are Gary, defensive tackle Maurice Hurst, and linebacker Mike McCray. The Wolverines have enough talent that it’s close to a sure thing they’ll eventually be great. But it’s not clear if that’s going to happen in 2017 or if it’ll have to wait.
No matter how the season goes for both, their meeting on Saturday is a big deal. It’s the second-biggest game of Week 1, only behind the unbeatable Alabama-Florida State matchup in Atlanta. We’ve got two competitive teams with huge fan bases meeting at JerryWorld, which is close enough to being equidistant between the two campuses. The atmosphere will be great, and the game might be, too.
