Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger admits he doesn’t know who Jerry Seinfeld is

0

Well, this will make you feel old.

The Los Angeles DodgersCody Bellinger has been lighting things up this season, currently hitting .272 with 22 home runs in his rookie year. His team is sitting atop the National League West, and they’re second behind the Houston Astros for the best record in the MLB.

Despite all of Bellinger’s accomplishments this season, there’s one thing he’s less keen on, and that’s the existence of comedian Jerry Seinfeld. Apparently the 21-year-old has no idea who Seinfeld is. Bellinger, who was drafted in the fourth round out of high school in the 2013 MLB Draft, recently made the revelation on Scott Van Pelt’s SportsCenter on Friday night.

SVP: “So do you know who Jerry Seinfeld is?”

Bellinger: “I’m not going to lie to you, I know the name but I couldn’t put a face to the name.

SVP starts laughing and then puts his head in his hands.

Bellinger: “Yeah, I don’t know...I don’t really know what he does, man, I’m sorry.”

SVP: “You don’t have to apologize for anything, he was just kind of a real popular guy that had a real popular TV show, and it’s just a reminder that there’s some younger dudes, and you’re one of them.”

Bellinger’s teammates grilled him on Twitter afterwards.

Van Pelt does have a point here though. It’s hard to believe that some people have never heard of Seinfeld or his incredibly popular show that was on for almost nine years in the late 1980s and 90s, but given that Bellinger was born in 1995, you can’t really blame him. If my parents didn’t love the show and always had on the re-runs while I was growing up, there’s a chance I wouldn’t be as familiar with Seinfeld, too.

It’s still hard to comprehend that sometimes, though, as SVP showed in this hilarious moment.

Maybe some of Bellinger’s older teammates can introduce him to Seinfeld.
