Quintana's Value

0

Over 1/4 into the season, it's time to re-evaluate Jose's value. Like so many Sox fans when teams were saying "he's not an ace" and he's a "solid, mid-rotation guy" I was outraged. Didn't they see what we saw. Didn't they see the WBC where he was nails on the national stage.

Well - he's NOT an ace. Know how I know that? This is the first year he's the clear #1 and not only has he not stepped up, he had his worse season at a time it matters most for the rebuild. He looked great last time out and for 3 innings today - wow. But then suddenly he's throwing batting practice. Unreal. This on top of previous command and control issues and it's very frustrating.

So where are we at? AT the deadline, if I'm NY, am I going after Jose? Or a bigger name like a Darvish or Cole, etc? I think for that team and city the answer is clear.

Whatever we were offered in the winter, I have to think it's even less now and probably at the deadline.

The took a risk and it hasn't paid off. I hope between bullpen arms they can cobble together some positional prospects that are above Tilson level so we can start picturing a future lineup for this team.

Because at this point, I think we're looking at winter before Jose is a viable trade option again. And we can all continue to sweat every time he takes the mound.
