Indians will wear special Mother’s Day jerseys sans Chief Wahoo

0

Presumably this is so their entire uniform can match without have a bright-pink Native American caricature.

Whether you like it or not, whether you agree with it or not, the Cleveland Indians are moving away from their controversial Chief Wahoo logo. The Indians themselves have confirmed it, and Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred is putting pressure on the team to do it.

So it’s no surprise that the Indians’ Mother’s Day uniforms will feature the Block C logo in place of Chief Wahoo on their sleeve. This news is not breaking by any means, it was revealed back in April that none of the team’s Holiday jerseys would feature Chief Wahoo on the sleeve. But this is the first time we get to see a Wahoo-less jersey in action this season; it’s most likely a glimpse into the future.

During previous holidays, the Indians kept Wahoo on the sleeve, but just didn’t colorize it. Last Mother’s Day, for example, the Indians were the only team without some kind of colorized logo (or American Flag, in the San Diego Padres’ case) on their sleeve.

MLB seemed to realize that Holiday-fying Chief Wahoo was a bad idea back in 2011, when they released this personification of a terrible idea and pulled it shortly after.

Good lord.
