Statistical Spotlight: Freddy Peralta’s Standard Numbers
After a quiet start to the offseason, David Stearns went to the other extreme by securing key acquisitions in a short span. A top priority on the Mets’ offseason list was to attain a top-end starter, particularly one who has some postseason experience. On Stearns’s wedding anniversary, he was able to seal the deal to bring Peralta over from the Brewers. This seems to be a great move for the Mets as it checks all the boxes that Stearns was looking for in terms of starting pitching this offseason.

Freddy Peralta had some great numbers last season. He went 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA. He struck out 204 batters across 176.2 innings. He posted a 10.39 K/9 as well as a very low 1.07 HR/9. While all of these numbers are great, his standard stats compared to the league and the Mets really stand out for his 2025 campaign.
Peralta’s 17 wins ranked him first in the National League and fourth overall in the MLB. In comparison to the Mets, the next closest in wins was Clay Holmes with 12. His 2.70 ERA ranked him seventh in all of the MLB. The 204 strikeouts ranked him ninth in the MLB. It also would have placed him first on the Mets by a landslide, the next closest pitcher being David Peterson with 150 strikeouts. Quite possibly the most important stat for Mets fans was Peralta’s innings pitched. He threw 176.2 innings, which would have ranked him first on the Mets last season. Knowing how much the Mets’ starting pitchers struggled to go deep into games, now having a pitcher that can successfully go deep into games builds confidence at the front of this rotation.
With pitchers and catchers reporting for duty in two weeks, acclimating to his new environment and gelling with his new teammates is critical at the start of this season. Look for Peralta to be the man on the mound come opening day. There’s a lot to be excited for when he starts throwing pitches in a Mets uniform.
