Mets Sign Craig Kimbrel

The Mets have signed reliever Craig Kimbrel to a minor league contract, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Kimbrel will receive an invitation to major league camp this spring training.

Kimbrel has put up a Hall of Fame-worthy career, but has bounced around MLB the last few years, as he reached his mid-to late 30s.

The righty made his return to Atlanta in 2025 after an all-world start to his career there in the early 2010s. However, his stint back with the Braves lasted only an inning, after which he was designated for assignment. Kimbrel finished out the year in Houston, where he put up solid numbers, pitching to a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings.

Kimbrel came onto the scene with a high-octane fastball, but no longer lights up the radar gun consistently. He averaged just 93.5 mph on his four-seamer last season, which was below league average. Nevertheless, he amassed 34.7% strikeout rate in his limited time in the bigs.

If Kimbrel suits up for New York this season, they will be the tenth team he has played for. The Mets are certainly hoping that they can get the most out of Kimbrel on what may very well be the next stop on his journey to Cooperstown.
