Morning Briefing: Beltrán Helps Soto Acclimate to Mets
Good morning, Mets fans!
Despite finishing top-three in MVP voting during the 2025 season, the transition to Queens didn’t come without some ups and down for Mets star outfielder Juan Soto. Carlos Beltrán, who played in the smaller markets of Kansas City and Houston, was thrust into the New York spotlight where he struggled at first as well. Beltrán obviously turned it around and went on to become a Mets legend; he is now in the position to help young stars like Soto make the same adjustment.
In an interview with Katherine Hernandez of CDN 37, Soto detailed how one piece of advice from Carlos stuck with him and helped him during down times. The four-time All-Star told Hernandez, “Everyone was piling on and the pressure was intense. To get through it, he started carrying a card with all his key stats written on it. Every time he looked at it, he reminded himself, this is who I am as a player, not the version everyone else is trying to paint.” Having former Mets more heavily involved in the organization is already paying dividends for the Cohen regime.
