Softball starts Monday, completes WBSC’s four-discipline lineup at SEA Games
Softball takes centre stage at the South East Asia (SEA) Games Thailand 2025 from Monday, as both the men's and women's tournaments begin at Her Majesty Queen Sirikit 60th Birthday Anniversary Stadium in Bangkok.
Following the conclusion of the baseball competition on Friday, the venue is being transformed into a fully equipped softball field to host nine teams across the two tournaments competing for gold from 15 to 19 December.
The men’s tournament features No. 11 Singapore, No. 19 Philippines, No. 27 Thailand, and No. 29 Malaysia. Defending champions Singapore return after their historic first-ever gold medal in 2019, the last time men’s softball was played. The Philippines took silver in 2019, while Indonesia claimed bronze.

The women’s competition includes No. 16 Philippines, No. 25 Singapore, No. 48 Thailand, No. 56 Malaysia, and Indonesia, which will re-enter the WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking after a two-year absence. The Philippines aim to defend their 2019 title, with Indonesia and Malaysia looking to repeat their silver and bronze performances, respectively.

Both tournaments will follow a single round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the Gold Medal Game and the third- and fourth-placed teams meeting for bronze. Medal games are scheduled for 19 December.
With Baseball completed and Baseball5 finishing on Sunday, the two softball competitions complete the full treble of WBSC disciplines featured in the SEA Games programme—marking the first time four WBSC disciplines appear together in a multi sports event since the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
The SEA Games bring together the National Olympic Committees of 11 Southeast Asian nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
