Latest Mets News
There was a whole lot more Mets news on Tuesday:
Edwin Díaz was one of nine players to decline the qualifying offer. Four players accepted: Gleyber Torres, Trent Grisham, Shota Imanaga, and Brandon Woodruff. Per Jeff Passan of ESPN, Woodruff’s return to Milwaukee substantially increases the likelihood that the Brewers move Freddy Peralta.
The Mets have added speedy outfield prospect Nick Morabito to their 40-man roster, protecting him from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft. In a corresponding move to clear roster space, the team has released right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas.
Passan also reports that the New York are looking to “blow up” a significant portion of the roster. Beyond young pieces like Luisangel Acuña, Mark Vientos or Brett Baty, veterans are also available; this includes outfielder Brandon Nimmo — who possesses a full no-trade clause — and utility man Jeff McNeil.
Despite a difficult 2025 season, the Mets are reportedly interested in acquiring reliever Devin Williams. Williams is coming off a down year where he posted a 4.79 ERA over 62 innings in New York, a sharp decline from his dominant sub-2.00 ERA performance from 2022 to 2024.
Jack Ramsey rounded up all of the Mets’ rumors from Tuesday.
