Cosmic Baseball to bring a glowing atmosphere to Sahlen Field

0 6

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Celebrating Independence Day weekend at the ballpark has become a tradition at Sahlen Field.

"I think Cosmic Baseball is one hundred percent an event that is going to really take this area by storm, and those here in the park on July 3rd are going to be treated to an unreal experience," said Brad Bisbing, the assistant general manager of the Buffalo Bisons.

Next year, the Buffalo Bisons do not have a game during Independence Day weekend, but are bringing a new baseball experience to town.

"You'll see something you've never experience," said Chris Martin, owner and founder of Cosmic Baseball. "The environment, because it's black lit, you're gonna see everybody reacting, reactive jerseys, reactive t-shirts, reactive balls, so you're gonna be in an environment that is actually the opposite that you would think of. A lot of people think of blacklight and think of dark, you're gonna be in an environment that's actually glowing."

The idea for Cosmic Baseball started in Virginia last year, and in 2026, Buffalo will be one of the destinations on their 30-city tour.

"It is a huge sports town, everybody loves their sports, everyone loves their traditions, so when we flew out here trying to make the decision, if this is the right place for us, this stadium has a ton of history to it, it's got a lot of energy to it, you can create such an amazing experience," said Martin. "So, to see 16,000 people jumping around screaming in blacklight, I don't think you can beat that."

They'll install 100 to 150 black lights on top of the stadium and on the outfield sections, helping illuminate the neon colors that the players and the fans in the stands are wearing.

"Everybody's going to be kind of glowing around the field. Players, some people say it looks like they're floating when they're playing because you can't really see the field level as well, so it's gonna look in that aspect, you're gonna see homerun derby, a lot of lasers, a lot of bubbles, a lot of confetti," said Martin.

To get tickets to see Cosmic Baseball, people will have to sign up in their ticket lottery, names will be drawn within the next few months, and then people can purchase tickets.

"Full expectations that we're going to have a huge crowd that's going to enjoy a tremendous experience, so if you want to be apart of it, you got to sign up for that ticket lottery now and hopefully your name gets pulled," said Bisbing.
