Mexican Softball League announces first-ever All-Star Game and Home Run Derby in 2026
The Mexican Softball League (Liga Mexicana de Softbol - LMS) officially announced the creation of the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby 2026. León, Guanajuato, will host the first edition of the mid-season event, which will take place on 16 and 17 February at Domingo Santana TV4 Stadium. The announcement was made during a press conference held in León.
“This event will mark a milestone in the history of women’s sports in Mexico. The All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby represent a strategic pillar to strengthen the Mexican Softball League. May it be a great event and, starting in 2026, become a recurring and annual tradition,” said Horacio de la Vega, Executive President of the Mexican Baseball League.
In 2026, the LMS will celebrate its third season in history and currently features eight teams: Algodoneras de Unión Laguna, Bravas de León, Charros de Jalisco Softball, Diablos Rojos Femenil, El Águila de Veracruz Softball, Las Olmecas de Tabasco, Naranjeros Softbol Femenil, and Sultanes Femenil.
“I’m super happy about the realization of this event,” said Daniela Leal, LMS General Director. “This All-Star Game aims to offer a high-level sporting experience, showcase the talent of the players, and position the LMS as the most solid and professional women’s league in Latin America.”
The Home Run Derby will feature eight players, with each club selecting its representative. There will be three rounds — Round 1, Semifinal and Final — where participants will have 10 outs, with no time limit, to hit as many home runs as possible. Players may take a 20-second break at their discretion, and home runs will not carry over between rounds. A bonus rule adds one extra swing for every set of three home runs.
Tiebreakers in Round 1 and the Semifinal will consist of three swings, while the Final will be decided by sudden death (one swing per player).
For the LMS All-Star Game, scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the franchises will be divided into Team 1 (Sultanes, Naranjeras, Algodoneras, Charros) and Team 2 (Diablos, El Águila, Olmecas, Bravas). Each team will consist of 16 players, with managers and coaches coming from the 2025 season champion (Diablos) and runner-up (Sultanes) teams.
The LMS will select 14 of the 16 players on each All-Star roster, while the remaining two spots will be chosen by fans through the league’s social media platforms.
The 2026 LMS All-Star Game will be played over seven innings. In the event of extra innings, one additional inning will be played; if the tie remains after eight innings, the game will be declared a draw.
