Baseball5 spreads in Chile with first University Tournament
Chile’s first Federated University Baseball5 Tournament was held at the Lo Cañas Campus in La Florida, hosted by the Catholic University Silva Henríquez. With six participating teams from various Faculties of Physical Education, the event was supported by the Chilean Baseball and Softball Federation.
The University of Chile, Bernardo O’Higgins University, University of Educational Sciences, University of Santiago de Chile, Pontifical Catholic University, and Catholic University Silva Henríquez took part in the competition.
As part of the tournament, the same student-players received special training in both Game Management and Technical Table operations, serving as Technical Officials and ensuring compliance with official WBSC regulations.
Hosts Catholic University Silva Henríquez were crowned champions after scoring 17 runs in the championship game.
Work is already underway to organise the first Baseball5 Chile Open. In 2023, a collaboration agreement between the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Physical Education Pedagogy), the Chilean Baseball and Softball Federation, and the B&S Foundation led to the first Federal Baseball5 School Championship.
