Chris Suero Homers In Arizona Fall League Action

0 3

The New York Mets have a number of prospects playing in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) for the Scottsdale Scorpions. The two Mets prospects who have been performing the best thus far are catcher Chris Suero and center fielder Nick Morabito.

The Scorpions had two big games back to back offensively. On Friday, they scored 11 runs in a shutout where Morabito and Suero each had two hits. Then, on Saturday, the Scorpions won 11-4. Morabito was on the bench, but Suero launched a second-inning homer going 1-for-4 in the clean-up spot in the batting order.

After the home run on Saturday, Suero now owns a .967 OPS. Morabito, who had the day off, is hitting .386 with an OPS over 1.000 at 1.026. It has been a sensational start to fall ball for each player, especially Morabito.

Scottsdale is now 6-3 in the early AFL season. In addition to Morabito and Suero, infielder D’Andre Smith and pitchers Brett Banks, Wyatt Hudepohl, Bryce Jenkins, Ernesto Mercedes, Jordan Gerber, and Austin Troesser are all also apart of the team.

Smith and Banks each also played on Saturday. Smith went 0-for-2 at the plate, but walked twice and scored each time. Meanwhile, Banks struggled mightily, allowing three runs to go along with two walks over only 1/3 of an inning.

As for the remaining Mets prospects who didn’t play Saturday, Hudepohl, Gerber, and Mercedes have yet to play a game through the nine-game slate thus far. Meanwhile, Jenkins has struggled allowing six runs over 1 2/3 innings and Troesser has allowed two runs over 3 1/3 innings.

The Scorpions are right back in action Sunday night at 8:00 pm ET against the Surprise Saguaros.
