Morning Briefing: Max Scherzer, Andrés Giménez Help Blue Jays Even Series
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Dodgers moved within one win of another World Series title with a 3-1 victory over the Brewers in Game 3 of the NL Championship Series on Thursday. Mookie Betts made a stellar play at shortstop reminiscent of Derek Jeter, sealing the game. Tyler Glasnow pitched 5 2/3 strong innings, and the bullpen allowed just one baserunner for the remainder of the game. Tommy Edman’s RBI single broke a tie in the sixth inning, and Los Angeles’ defense made crucial plays once again. The Dodgers can complete the sweep on Friday with Shohei Ohtani on the mound.
In Seattle, the Blue Jays evened the American League Championship Series at two games apiece with an 8-2 win over the Mariners. Max Scherzer, in his 500th career start including postseason, delivered a standout performance, while Andrés Giménez hit a two-run homer that set the tone for the game. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contributed his fifth postseason home run, breaking the franchise record and ensuring that the series would return to Canada tied.

1999: The grandest single of them all! On this day in 1999, the Grand Slam Single took place during Game 5 of the 1999 National League Championship Series between the Mets and Braves at Shea Stadium. In the 15th inning, with the game tied at 3-3, Robin Ventura hit what seemed to be a walk-off grand slam. However, he never completed his trip around the bases because his teammates celebrated by mobbing him between first and second base. As a result, only Roger Cedeño scored before the celebration began, so the play was officially ruled a single. This gave the Mets a 4-3 victory, and Ventura only one run batted in.
