Baseball & Softball to feature at Central American Games in Guatemala
Baseball and Softball continue their proud tradition as staple sports in the Americas’ multi-sport events with their participation in the XII Central American Games Guatemala 2025, which officially open on 20 October with the Opening Ceremony in Cayalá City. For decades, both disciplines have been integral to the sports programmes of continental and regional competitions.
Men’s Softball will open on 17 October, featuring six participating nations: Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. Teams will play a single round robin through 20 October, followed by Page Playoffs on 21 October.
Men’s Baseball takes place at the Enrique Torrebiarte Diamond in Guatemala City from 24 to 29 October, with teams from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua competing in a round robin format to determine the three medallists.
Women’s Softball will see Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama competing from 24 to 30 October. The round robin phase will run 24–27 October, with the top four teams advancing to the Page Playoffs on 28 October.
Both softball tournaments will be played at the Villa Hermosa Softball Diamonds in Guatemala City.
About the Games
The Central American Games are a regional multi-sport event held every four years, typically in the first year following the Summer Olympic Games. The competition is open to members of the Central American Sports Organization (Organización Deportiva Centroamericana – ORDECA), which includes Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.
First organized in 1973 in Guatemala, the Games return to the capital for their 12th edition in 2025, marking the fourth time Guatemala has hosted the event.
Softball has been part of the official sports programme since the inaugural edition, appearing in all 11 previous Games. Baseball joined the programme in 1977 in El Salvador and has remained ever since — underscoring the strong sporting heritage and regional passion for both sports.
