Cup of Coffee: Drohan, Romero lead Worcester to win

: Worcester picked up a win behind a great outing from Shane Drohan and a huge hit from Mikey Romero (pictured). The bullpen for the WooSox was also terrific. Portland dropped a tough one in extra innings, but saw five players record multiple hits.

In his third start with Worcester since coming back from injury, Shane Drohan finished five innings for the first time since early May. They were five great innings, as he did not allow a run on just two hits. He punched out three and did not issue a free pass, throwing 41 of his 63 pitches for strikes. Luis Guerrero, Alex Hoppe, and Isaiah Campbell each fired a shutout frame in relief, with Guerrero striking out a pair while allowing no hits or walks. Hobie Harris allowed a run in the ninth inning, although it was unearned. Mikey Romero had the big blow offensively, blasting a three-run home run in the second inning. The 10th-ranked prospect in the system finished with two hits and two runs scored. Abraham Toro went 3 for 4 with three singles, a sacrifice fly, and a pair of stolen bases. Corey Rosier singled, doubled and walked, while Kristian Campbell went 2 for 5 with a pair of singles. Campbell played right field.

Tyler Miller had a big night at the plate, going 2 for 5 with his eighth long ball of the season. Four other Sea Dogs picked up two hits, including Ahbram Liendo, Karson Simas, Caden Rose, and Drew Ehrhard. Liendo tripled and Simas had a pair of RBI singles. Franklin Arias added an RBI knock and a stolen base. Hayden Mullins started for Portland and surrendered three earned runs over four innings on four hits and five walks. He struck out four. Noah Dean tossed 2 2/3 strong innings out of the bullpen, allowing no runs on just one hit. Cooper Adams followed with 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball on just two hits. The run he gave up was unearned and he struck out one without issuing a walk.

Player of the Day: Mikey Romero's home run and three RBI ended up being the difference in the win for the WooSox. Romero has found his power stroke with Worcester, belting seven home runs in 35 games with the club after hitting eight in 66 games with Portland. Overall between the two teams, he is hitting .243/.315/.440 with 28 doubles, four triples, 15 home runs, and 66 RBI.
