Arizona Fall League Rosters Announced
The Mets prospects that will be playing in the Arizona Fall League later this year have been named. Those players, who will be playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions, are C/1B/OF Chris Suero, OF Nick Morabito, UT D’Andre Smith, RHP Brett Banks, RHP Wyatt Hudepohl, RHP Bryce Jenkins and RHP Austin Troesser.
Suero was ranked 14th on MetsMerized’s most recent prospect rankings. Morabito was ranked 16th. Smith was ranked 44th.
The Scorpions will also have a familiar face manning the team. The squad will be managed by former Met catcher Rene Rivera.
Suero, 21, has played 36 games for Double-A Binghamton since being called up from Brooklyn (.836 OPS) earlier this year. He has not seen the same success as of yet, slashing .217/.382/.325 upstate, but as a 21-year-old, there’s plenty of time for the rest of his game to catch up to his proclivity to get on base. Suero has played catcher, first base and left field. The Bronx native leads all minor leaguers in spending a majority of their time behind the plate this year, with 33 stolen bases.

Morabito’s OPS has dipped compared to last season, but his 46 stolen bases and counting pop out. The 22-year-old is a strong defensive outfielder who has played all three outfield positions this year, although he excels in center.
Smith, 24, was also moved up to Double-A this year and has an OPS there of .748 and 33 stolen bases overall. He has played second base and all three outfield spots.
Banks has seen the most action this season of the all-relief pitching group headed to the AFL. The 23-year-old has a 2.23 ERA in 36 1/3 innings between the FCL Mets, St. Lucie Mets and Brooklyn Cyclones. Jenkins (12) and Troesser (13) have seen limited action coming back from injury, and Hudepohl hasn’t pitched this season.
Two top-five prospects in all of MLB will also be playing in the AFL. Kevin McGonigle, a shortstop in the Tigers system, and Sebastian Walcott, a shortstop from the Rangers organization, will be suiting up.
The league begins play on Oct. 6, and the championship game will be played on Nov. 15.
