Japan stay No. 1 in Men's and Women's Softball World Rankings after The World Games 2025

Japan have kept their grip on both the WBSC Men’s and Women’s Softball World Rankings following The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China where the latest update reflected the medals earned on the field and shifts in the global order.

In The World Games 2025 men’s competition, Japan and USA shared the gold medal after the finals were rained out. Canada and Venezuela both received bronze, with Argentina fifth, Czechia sixth, Australia seventh and Singapore eighth.

WBSC Men’s Softball World Ranking

The updated Men’s Softball World Ranking shows Japan still No. 1 with 2,989 points, followed by Venezuela on 2,672 and Argentina with 2,271. Canada climbed two places to fourth with 2,076 points, while USA also moved up two spots to fifth on 2,006. Czechia rose one place to eighth with 1,416 points.

The World Games 2025 women’s competition saw USA defeat Chinese Taipei in the final to take the gold medal. Japan secured bronze, with Canada in fourth, followed by Australia, Puerto Rico, the Netherlands and China.

WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking

In the Women’s Softball World Ranking, Japan remain in first place with 3,072 points, ahead of USA on 2,778 and Puerto Rico with 2,624. Chinese Taipei, silver medallists in Chengdu, stay fifth on 1,927. China made the biggest progress, moving up three places to seventh with 1,513 points.

Under the new ranking calculation system, the WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking sees the expiration of the points earned at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which had remained in the standings for four calendar years. In addition, the points from The World Games 2025 replace those from the 2022 edition of the event, held in Birmingham, Alabama.
