Guardians News and Notes: Sweep on the Line
News and Notes for Sunday, August 3rd, 2025
The Guardians beat the Twins yesterday and will go for the sweep this afternoon with Joey Cantillo on the bump.
ZachF has your recap here. Daniel Schneemann was incredible, Jose Ramirez played the hero again with a game-tying two-run homer, CJ Kayfus got his first RBI and looked fine in RF, and the bullpen was EXCELLENT taking over for an (again) disappointing Tanner Bibee. Had to feel good for the relief guys to get it done - Festa, Sabrowski, Enright and Gaddis - yesterday without Cade Smith available and, of course, the week they lost Emmanuel Clase.
Travis Bazzana went 3-for-5 with a double and a game-tying three-run homer. He punched pitches into the opposite field and even pulled one out from the outside of the plate. All he sees is pitches on the outside so if he can continue to do this... he should start to see more pitches inside and then things get really fun.
Around MLB
The Mariners lost to the Rangers. Of course, the Rangers are also ahead of the Guardians in the wildcard race.
However, the Yankees are also rapidly descending as they got shutout by the Marlins... that would be so delicious to steal their playoff spot. While I don't see the Guardians going anywhere in the playoffs, there is still plenty left to root for and I am glad they give me something to be excited about every day.
