Padres Getting Star Closer Mason Miller

0 4

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports the San Diego Padres are trading for star closer Mason Miller and lefty starter JP Sears. Headed to the A’s is one of the top prospects in baseball, shortstop Leo De Vries. The 18-year-old is already playing in High-A ball and was ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball in the midseason update from Baseball Prospectus.

The A’s will also receive three pitchers in the deal, who have not been named yet.

Miller, one of the hardest throwers in baseball history, is only 26 years old and under team control through the 2029 season. He has a 3.16 ERA, 48 saves and a whopping 201 strikeouts in his first 136 2/3 major league innings.

The Mets were one of the teams connected to Miller before they landed relievers Tyler Rogers and Ryan Helsley on Wednesday.

Multiple reports say the Padres could now trade starter Dylan Cease.
