Four Of A Kind
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (63-45) by a score of 16-4 in Game 1 of Tuesday’s twinbill. It was the team’s fourth consecutive win on the homestand.
The Orioles hit four homeruns in the game including Tyler O’Neill‘s fourth homerun in as many games. Jordan Westburg had four hits (4 for 6, 2 2B) and scored four runs while Ramon Laureano scored four runs as well. Gunnar Henderson and O’Neill each recorded 4 RBI in the contest.
Homerun Derby
Joining O’Neill in wearing the Jack Sparrow hat were Ramon Urias (twice) and Henderson. In fact, O’Neill and Urias went back-to-back with homeruns in the sixth inning.
A Hit Parade
The Orioles had another game with double-digit hits, their fourth such game of the homestand; seven players in the starting lineup produced a muti-hit day. Only Coby Mayo (0 for 5) and Alex Jackson (0 for 4) were not a part of the parade.
Morton’s Quality Start
Starter Charlie Morton (7-8) gave the O’s another quality start, his sixth in 17 starts this season. The 41 year old veteran allowed 3 runs on 8 hits (1 HR surrendered) with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts over 6.0 innings. He got a well-deserved win for his 100 pitch (64 K’s) effort on this 97 degree day. The team showed their appreciation of his effort with many hugs, handshakes and pats on the back inbetween the sixth and seventh innings.
Reliever Yaramil Hiraldo, recalled after Colin Selby‘s hamstring injury on Monday, allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 1 across the eighth and ninth innings. The allowed run came on a Joey Loperfido homerun in the eighth inning.
The MLB trade deadline is 49 hours away and the question now is, does the recent play by the Orioles change anything? We will know that answer at 6 pm on Thursday.
