Andy Byron Was a Minor League Baseball Pitcher Before Coldplay Scandal
Now former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron has been receiving a firestorm of media attention lately, but not for his athletics.
Byron resigned from the tech company after a kiss cam video from a Coldplay concert that appears to show him and Astronomer human resources executive Kristin Cabot embracing.
The pair quickly turned and ducked out of shot after their faces appeared on the Jumbotron in front of thousands of fans at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts on July 16, 2025.
Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin even called out their reaction on stage.
"Uh oh. Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy," he quipped in the microphone.
Byron has since resigned following a formal internal investigation by the company, which resulted in Byron being placed on leave. He resigned after being placed on leave.
But Byron was fairly well-known even before the alleged scandal, albeit not as well-known as he is since the kiss cam video went viral and has remained a major headline item.
Byron's now deleted LinkedIn page showed he attended college in Rhode Island at Providence College, pitching for the school's baseball team.
Minor League Baseball team The Clarksville Coyotes picked up Byron well before the Coldplay kiss cam did, back in 1997, according to The Providence Journal.
His stats show he wasn't too bad at pithing either.
"Andy Byron led the team with 8 wins, while George Lovett recorded a 3 ERA, best among qualifying pitchers," according to the team's 1997 profile on Stats Crew.
Despite Byron's efforts, the Clarksville, Tennessee team weren't the best in their league, finishing fifth at the end of the season in the Heartland League with a record of 32-39.
Maybe Byron should've stayed in baseball to avoid all the bad press he's been receiving, but then again, he might not own a $1.2 million home in Northborough, Massachusetts or become CEO of Astronomer if he had.
