Mets Sign First Rounder Mitch Voit
The New York Mets announced on Thursday morning that they’ve signed 2025 first-round pick Mitch Voit. The 20-year-old will be at Citi Field on Friday to talk to the media and take batting practice. Voit will then head to Port St. Lucie to begin his pro career.
The signing bonus for Voit is $1.75 million, according to Jim Callis of MLB. The slot value for the 38th overall pick is $2,569,400.
Voit slashed .346/.471/.668 with 14 homers, 60 RBIs and 14 steals in 56 games for the Wolverines this year. When drafted, he was announced as a two-way player but he didn’t pitch for Michigan this year after July 2024 surgery on his right (throwing) elbow. He pitched to a 5.49 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings in 2024. MLB.com ranked him the No. 63 prospect in the draft.
“I want to congratulate Mitch and his family on this momentous occasion. They have put a lot of hard work and sacrifice into getting to this point. Mitch has shown the ability to play at a high-level at several positions and make an impact at the plate. He has great makeup and a tremendous amount of potential. Additionally, I want to thank David Stearns, the Amateur Scouting Staff, and the entire Baseball Operations Department, as this is truly a collaborative effort across the entire organization,” said Mets VP of amateur scouting Kris Gross.
A bit of trivia, Voit’s selection made Michigan the first college to ever have a first-round pick in the four major U.S. sports leagues in the same season. (Mason Graham, fifth, NFL, Will Horcoff, 24th, NHL, Danny Wolf, 27th, NBA).
The MLB.com scouting report compared Voit to former Michigan two-way player Jake Cronenworth and said he “significantly improved his approach, making better swing decisions and barrelling more balls regularly” after he became a full-time hitter.
During his first media appearance after being drafted, Voit said his focus is on being a second baseman, but “I will do absolutely anything to make it to the big leagues as a New York Met.”
