You would have loved to see Seth Hernandez be picked by the Cincinnati Reds
That’s not how the cards fell, however!
Mock Drafts were all over the place heading into the start of the 2025 MLB Draft. Since there was no consensus #1 overall pick, how the early portion of the draft went was sure to send the subsequent picks into some sort of chaos, with multiple players being linked to just about every single team in the Top 20.
The Cincinnati Reds held pick #9, and after asking for your opinion on several players linked to the Reds in the run-up to the draft, you responded collectively by saying you’d like to see Corona High School (CA) pitcher Seth Hernandez selected by the Reds.
Hernandez narrowly beat out Ike Irish in your voting. That said, Hernandez was long off the board by the time the Reds actually got to use pick #9 last night.
They selected Steele Hall, the reigning Alabama Mr. Baseball, with said pick, and seem to be incredibly happy with how that turned out. Given that Hall reclassified from a would-be member of the 2026 Draft class, the Reds think they got the guy who would’ve gone #1 overall next year at a bargain this year.
We’ll see!
