White Sox select RHP Gabe Davis in the fifth round of the 2025 draft (No. 137 overall)
Massive righty brings tantalizing potential to the South Side
With their fifth round pick (No. 137 overall), the White Sox selected right-handed pitcher Gabe Davis from Oklahoma State. The 6´9´´, 234-pounder is seen as a pitcher to dream on and an arm that a pitching developer (say, Brian Bannister?) would want to work with.
MLB had Davis ranked as the No. 147 prospect in the draft, which gets the White Sox closer to correct talent level for this slot (yeah, speculative, but boy the team never seems to get talent “steals” of players ranked much higher for slot level in these drafts).
Davis suffered a broken collarbone while with the Cowboys and also spent a month sidelined with shoulder issues this year. But while most would see his college inconsistency and size as a guaranteed move to the bullpen, Davis does have a changeup in a three-pitch mix that would indicate the White Sox will roll him out as a starter. He does have the stuff for high-leverage, if he moves to the pen.
