2025 MLB Draft: Rays select high school OF Dean Moss at No. 67 overall
$1.29 million slot value for the IMG Academy prospect.
The Tampa Bay Rays have selected IMG Academy outfielder Dean Moss at No. 67 overall in the supplemental round between the second and third rounds.
Moss is committed to LSU and was ranked No. 97 overall at Baseball America.
MLB Pipeline:
Moss grew up in California, but headed across the country to attend IMG Academy in eighth grade. He was a constant presence on the summer showcase circuit, appearing at the East Coast Pro Showcase and the Area Code Games, among others. He was robbed of an extra-base hit at MLB’s High School All-American Game by IMG teammate Sean Gamble, but he showed enough prowess at the plate to be considered one of the top players in Florida for the 2025 Draft.
Moss’s hit tool is what stands out more than anything else. He routinely finds the barrel with an outstanding left-handed swing. He has plus bat speed and has shown he can use the entire field, with a fearless approach and the ability to turn around all pitching. He’s more hit over power right now, showcasing more bat-to-ball skills than the ability to drive it. There is raw power for him to tap into, especially to the pull side, but he’s still learning to leverage the ball consistently.
Primarily a center fielder in high school, he’s shown good instincts and takes good jumps, reads and routes. There’s some question whether he’ll stay there long term as he’s an average runner, and a lack of speed could push him to a corner. That would put a bit more pressure on the LSU recruit’s bat to provide more thump, but his feel for hitting will certainly create interest in the early rounds.
Got some open-side cuts of Dean Moss last night and man, this is a fun swing.

Extremely quick hands, tight coil in his core during his load that allows him to have solid power for his size. Does a very nice job of separating his hips/shoulders. pic.twitter.com/W3No3EoN9L

As an underclassman, Moss developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous offensive threats in the 2025 class. He has a sound mix of hitting ability, plate discipline and impact, and also has a fairly extensive track record of high-level performance on the showcase circuit and at plenty of high-profile travel ball events.
Listed at 6-feet, 180 pounds, Moss employs an extremely high handset that drops down to a more conventional shoulder-high set in his load, which features a toe tap and standard stride in his lower half. He has solid barrel skills and can use the entire field, with a savvy batting eye that leads to good takes and should lead to strong walk rates at the next level. Moss will flash some pullside power but he has just modest raw power and lacks the sort of physical projection to dream of much more coming. Moss is a solid-average runner at his best, and he plays center field for IMG Academy.
While his outfield instincts are solid, he might be stretched at the position at the next level and be a better defensive fit for an outfield corner. Scouts view him as a tweener outfield profile—not dissimilar to Jon Jay—without the power to profile in right and the footspeed that might be stretched in center. Because of that, there’s plenty of pressure on his pure hitting ability. Moss is committed to LSU and will be 19 on draft day.
