Dedniel Núñez To Undergo Tommy John Surgery
29-year-old reliever Dedniel Núñez is set to undergo Tommy John surgery next week, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed.

The Mets had initially diagnosed Núñez with a right elbow sprain, but further testing has evidently made surgery necessary. This will be his second Tommy John procedure after the first, which came in 2021 after a UCL sprain. Post-Tommy John, Núñez rebuilt his career in the Mets system and broke out in 2024, posting a 2.31 ERA with 48 strikeouts over 35 innings in his rookie season.
Núñez returned in 2025 at less than full strength and bounced between Triple-A and the majors. He last appeared for the big league club on July 2, just as he was beginning to find his rhythm. Though he struggled early, he had been settling in lately, putting up a 2.25 ERA over his final eight innings before the injury.
“For him to go down, it’s unfortunate, obviously…we wish him the best, a quick recovery,” Mendoza said sympathetically.
