News and Notes for Thursday, July 10th, 2025

The Cleveland Guardians officially have themselves a winning streak. After sweeping the Astros last night behind a very impressive start by Slade Cecconi, the Guards will head to the southside of Chicago to face the White Sox. Read the recap for last night’s game here before the team starts their last series before the All Star break.

José Ramírez has opted out of the All Star Game, wanting to focus on giving his body a break before the second half of the season. After making an appearance in every ASG since 2017 (with the exception of the 2020 season), I think José deserves to actually rest for a couple of days.

Prior to last night’s game, the Guardians announced a pitching roster move. Kolby Allard was placed on a minor league contract after being DFA’d and electing free agency. His contract was then selected and Tim Herrin was optioned down to AAA Columbus. I am choosing to read this as a load management move that also conveniently gives Herrin a chance to tweak some things.

Former Cleveland outfielder Tyler Naquin made his professional debut as a pitcher for the Lake County Captains last night. Naquin pitched in the eighth inning, throwing a scoreless inning for his first High-A outing.

Around the League:

The Guards remain 1.5 games back in 4th place in the AL Central. Even with the Tigers’ losing last night, they still remain securely in first place. The Royals and Twins are battling for second with the amount of games played being the difference maker for the two clubs.

Jackson Chourio smacked is first career walk-off hit in Brewers victory.

D.J. LeMahieu was DFA’d by the New York Yankees.

The ABS challenge system will make its Major League debut in the All Star Game.
