Starling Marte to IL; Jesse Winker Returns
Updated Post, 7/8/25 2:40 PM
The Mets made a flurry of moves ahead of the Baltimore series.
Jesse Winker has returned from his oblique injury, but Starling Marte now heads to the injured list with a knee bruise. Marte hurt his knee on a check swing in his last at-bat. Winker originally hurt himself on a rare day playing the field, and now Marte also hurt himself on a day he played the field (albeit while batting).

The Mets also called up Alex Carrillo (whose journey was detailed below) and designated Zack Pop for assignment. Pop made one appearance for the Mets on Sunday after signing him to a major-league deal.
The Mets also announced the signed Junior Fernandez to a minor-league deal and moved Tylor Megill to the 60-day injured list.
Busy day in Mets transaction world.

Alex Carrillo, a 28-year-old relief pitcher who has spent seven years playing in independent, Mexican and Venezuelan leagues, is getting his big break, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported.
The right-hander has struck out 40 batters in 25 innings pitched combined for Triple-A Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton this year, pitching to a 3.24 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. He pitched last season for the independent Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League (49 strikeouts, 35.1 innings) and the Tigres de Aragua of the Venezuelan Winter League (21 strikeouts, 16 innings).
Carrillo was throwing 100 mph at Syracuse, where he struck out 10 in 5 2/3 scoreless, hitless innings. Check out one of his more recent dominant performances in Syracuse here. He posted a 4.19 ERA at Binghamton in 19.1 innings before he was promoted. His K/BB ratio this year is 32, which is ninth out of 2,211 minor leaguers this year with at least 20 innings.
Carrillo is a native of Paramount, Calif., and played NAIA college baseball at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala., in 2018-2019. In his seven years of baseball—college, independent, foreign and other—he’s thrown 277 2/3 innings.
It was not immediately clear who the Mets would send down to make room for Carrillo on the roster.
