Mets Minors Recap: Winker Homers in Potential Final Rehab Game

0 4

Jesse Winker homered on Sunday in what may be his final rehab appearance before rejoining the big league club in Baltimore on Tuesday. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined since straining his oblique in St. Louis back in May. The Buffalo native has been sorely missed by a Mets lineup that has struggled to generate production from the bottom half of the order.

Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (40-47) 7, Worcester Red Sox (44-42) 8

Box Score

Jared Young had a big day at the plate, going 1-for-2, tallying 3 RBIs, and homering for the second time in as many days. Young has six hits in seven games, including two home runs, since rejoining Syracuse.

Dylan Ross struck out two in an inning of work and hasn’t allowed an earned run since June 20. Ross’s impressive numbers position him as a strong candidate for a promotion to the Mets’ bullpen, which has been battered with injuries over the past month.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (53-26) 5, Hartford Yard Goats (43-38) 1

Box Score

Jacob Reimer and D’Andre Smith both homered for the second day in a row. Ryan Clifford hit his 14th double and is slashing a respectable .244/.363/.477, for someone whose strikeout rate was a concern heading into the season.

Jonah Tong and Wenninger combined have helped the Mets become one of just two MiLB organizations with multiple pitchers recording over 100 strikeouts, per Joe DeMayo of SNY.

High-A

Hudson Valley Renegades (47-32) 2, Brooklyn Cyclones (54-27) 1

Box Score

A.J. Ewing drove in Brooklyn’s lone run with an RBI double as part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Jesus Baez also added a double, but the Cyclones fell just short in a 2-1 loss to Hudson Valley. Ewing also stole his 38th base of the season.

Right-hander Noah Hall turned in a solid start, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings of work. He struck out five and now holds a dominant 2.65 ERA on the season. Hall has sputtered a bit recently, allowing seven earned runs in his last two starts.

Low-A

St. Lucie Mets (43-36) 3, Daytona Tortugas (37-43) 0

Box Score

Trace Willhoite got the game started with a two-run triple in the first, which would be all St. Lucie needed to beat the Tortugas. Willhoite leads the team with a .848 OPS, a great story for the 24-year-old who was signed as an undrafted free agent.

Daviel Hurtado built on his previous strong outing, fanning five over three shutout innings while surrendering just two hits. Jose Chirinos bounced back from his last appearance, tossing four scoreless frames with four strikeouts, despite some command struggles.
