Guardians News and Notes: Ten in a Row or Beat Skubal
News and Notes for Sunday, July 6th, 2025
The Guardians will either lose 10 in a row today or they will find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball in Tarik Skubal.
The team wRC+ is down to 86. This is the worst first half offense in the Jacob's/Progressive Field era, and would be the worst offense overall since 1994, as @FranmilsEyebrow pointed out on Twitter:
If the season ended today, this Guardians lineup would go down as the worst offense in the history of Progressive Field.

Seriously, their wRC+ of 86 is worse than every single season’s team wRC+ since 1994.
And yes, it would also go down as the worst 1st-half offense in the same timespan (1994-present)

But, the pitching has been great. Props to Logan Allen and co. Props to Paul Sewald on helping his minimal trade value.
Zack Meisel presented the losing streak in context:

Tyler Freeman has a 136 wRC+ and Josh Naylor has a 127 wRC+. Both trades made sense, but both players would be huge in this lineup. Sigh.
Yesterday was the 78th anniversary of Larry Doby breaking the color barrier in the AL. Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com had a story on it.
